We’ve all done it. We’ve sat down and listed our goals and perhaps even a To-Do list of tasks to help us hopefully reach those goals. Here it is – our Business Plan!
We’re motivated and excited to start checking off tasks from our list until…
Before we know it, we get frustrated because we’re not reaching our goals as quickly as we hoped/planned. We’re working hard but not feeling the progress or excitement we expected. That Business Plan slowly slips to the bottom of the paperwork pile on our desk or into the background of our computer files. Why?!?!?
Generally it’s because we focused on the NUMBERS of the Business Plan, that’s what you’re supposed to do, right? Business IS numbers and certainly real estate is…leads, prospects, transactions, closings, etc.
NO, it’s not the money – that’s the flaw in most Business Plans (certainly the ones that don’t work!).
Think about it this way, if you want to lose weight you likely have a number in mind that you want to see on the scale. But really, what does that number mean to you? It likely means things like…I can wear my fave pair of jeans again! I can feel comfortable at pool and beach parties again! I’ll feel better and be healthier! I’ll be more able to play with my children/grandchildren with more energy!
It’s the same way with your Business Plan. You can set number goals all day long but are they really inspiring? Generally not…it’s what those number goals will give you. I’ll be able to take my family on vacation this year when I reach this goal! I can finally start saving towards retirement! I can contribute to my favorite charity! I can put in that pool we’ve all been wanting!
