For the last few weeks, I hope you’ve been following along with and benefitting from our Seize the Summer Action Plan to use these last weeks of summer to get more strategic in different parts of your business.
Well, the kids are back in school (in most areas) and the Labor Day weekend is behind us so Summer is officially over. ☹
When I sat down to create the final Strategy Session of the Seize the Summer Action Plan, I wanted to wrap it up in a really big way. I wanted to tie up all the themes and strategies we’ve discussed and I HOPE I’ve done a good job of that here.
I’m excited to say that I feel like I’ve put together an EPIC Strategy Session that really encapsulates what we’ve been talking about…How to Savor the wins of more Listings, Closings and Referrals…Stop wasting time and chasing your tail…and Seize control of your business and your life by becoming more strategic in every part of your business. That was the theme of the Action Plan.
But before I tell you about the great wrap-up resources, let me tell you something else.
Like you, I drive quite a lot for my work and recently I moved halfway across the country to a city and state I’ve not lived in before and so am having to learn my way around. But really, even in North Carolina where I lived for 16 years, I’d occasionally have to use (back in the day) maps and then navigation apps to guide me to my destination.
A few months ago (yeah, I was a little late to the party) I began using Waze. In case you’re not familiar with it (and if not, I highly recommending downloading it!), Waze is the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Other drivers in your area share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute.
Not only does the app give you the basic navigation instructions like turn left, right, u-turn, etc. but it includes real-world information of potential roadblocks, traffic jams and even police up ahead. It evaluates the very best and most efficient way for you to get where you want to go. It provides you a STRATEGY to reach your geographic goal.
You’re prepared for traffic (it can even tell you the best times to travel to your destination) and potential obstacles and how to avoid them.
Okay, I’m not here to sell you on Waze (it’s free by the way) so there’s no point. My point in talking about Waze is the strategy and preparation that it helps you with. When you know where you want to go, it helps you get there in the most efficient and successful way.
When you know where you want to go, prepare for potential road blocks and strategize how you’re going to get there…you can’t get lost.
The same is true for real estate.
I equate your basic real estate education (the classes you take to get and keep your license) to basic navigation apps. They show you the rules of the road, the basic map of how to get there but NO STRATEGY or REAL WORLD PREPARATION.
The point of the Seize the Summer Action Plan has been all about strategy and preparation. To that end, I’ve created for you the 7 Must-Haves for a Strategic Business.
Why is it important to be strategic in your business?
- If you don’t know where you want to go, how will you get there?
- If you don’t anticipate barriers, objections, emotions and problems – will you get stuck on the side of the road?
- When you’re lost or unsure, you’re not confident in your abilities and your knowledge – and it shows.
- ‘Winging it’ is not a good plan when you’re attempting to help your clients with the largest financial transactions and decisions that most of them will make in their lifetime.
- When you’re not strategic – you’re not in control of your business, your schedule, your life.
