Last week’s Strategy Session challenged you to Start Your Own Real Estate Talk Show on Social Media. That Session included a video and a downloadable resource to get you started. We then continued the conversation – where else but on Facebook! – with a LIVE daily online discussion of the 6 Steps to Starting Your Own Show. We had some great conversations, feedback and questions. This week, we’re going to expand on this topic with more ideas of how (and why) to be a Real Estate Resource on Social Media in order to achieve two of the top goals our members have reported having: Improving Your Social Media and Building Your Personal Brand.
In preparing the materials for this Strategy Session, I came across a quote that I immediately fell in love with:
“Be a Resource, Not a Sales Pitch” was a headline for an online blog actually written for people selling cars but I see it as a perfect quote/philosophy for real estate as well.
I see hundreds (if not thousands) of social media posts by real estate agents each day – on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, etc. – and almost all of them are sales pitches.
A sales pitch for a new listing, an open house or sometimes for their own services. I agree that an occasional listing promotion is needed and even expected by our sellers.
But in order to really reach people in order to build your personal brand – you have to be a Real Estate Resource, NOT just a Sales Pitch.
Here’s the good news – it’s easier than it sounds. Really! Once you have a strategy and a plan, it will come naturally to you because you ARE a real estate expert. You just need to shift your thinking about social media (and your marketing in general) to being a RESOURCE to your Sphere and Followers instead of only communicating sales pitches.
